R4000 - New offspring and eco-parents

The innovative R4000 multi-zone PID controller offers numerous new functions and enhancements. The successful 4 and 8-zone models gain green shoots with the 1-zone entry level device. For customers who want more than 8 zones, the cascade-able DIN-rail version helps expand the complete system to 16 or 24 zones. Users control all products using the 2 / 3-point controller with the many integrated functions via a coloured 3.5-inch touch display.

The multi-zone R4000 variants are "Green". Not green as in the colour but as in innovative energy-saving control functions. It used to be that with several different loops in the heating system, all heaters individually attempted to reach their setpoints as fast as possible. In the process, while some heating systems are working at full load for long periods, slower systems are still heating up. With the innovative new compound heating function, all controlled systems automatically adapt to the slowest, so that all heating systems reach the setpoint at the same time and with corresponding energy savings. This can also considerably reduce wear and tear for the controlled system since individual components are spending less time under "full load" in idle mode.

Three in one: R4000 now additionally as fully functional indicator and data logger

Another new feature for all R4000 controllers is the indicator function. Now you have the option to connect different sensors e.g., 0…10V or 0…20mA and to display the data in numerous physically adjustable units such as Bar, Nm, Joule or litre. By setting alarm limits, you can also trigger reactions or safety measures via the outputs. You can freely select how many zones and which ones you want to use as indicators or controllers. On request, the R4000 also saves all measured values in a USB memory (CSV file) or to other systems via bus connections.

R4000 as multi-zone controller

The cascaded R4000 controller is yet another product variant. Up to 8-zone controllers can be connected in series. The units are internally interconnected for communication via a bus system. The operating function is assumed by the master controller. The DIN rail-based expansion units have no display and are designed for traditional control cabinet installation. Operation is optionally via the main controller, used as a front-mounted device, or the free Windows-based Elovision software.

The controllers, depending on the expansion level, can also of course offer heater current monitoring. The integrated program controller runs exactly to the temperature profile you have set. Users can program up to 8 different and detailed temperature profiles (programs) per controller and assign each one to an individual program key. A self-optimisation algorithm enables even more precise control results. You can also freely configure ramp curves. The results can be displayed in the form of high-resolution graphs.

Depending on the version there are different interface options: RS-232/RS-485/TTY or Profibus/Profinet. USB (storage) and Ethernet are provided as standard. In the case of the outputs, you can choose between logic, relay or 0-10V or 0/4-20mA. Temperature measurement takes place via PT100/Ni120, various thermocouples or via linear input voltages or currents. Optional current transformers provide heating current recording/monitoring.

The multi-zone function will be available from Q1 2020, the other functions from October.
